ZONIC SHOCKUM full length vinyl LP + GOODMAN cassette
The next two releases out on NY’s Belligerent Records will be Zonic Shockum Dead Orchid, BRLP5 and Goodman Blues in E, BRCS6.
Dead Orchid features 10 killer never released songs by ZS plus the early singles “Whores” and “No, You Suck”. All 12 tracks have been transferred from the original master reels and lovingly mixed at Philly’s Miner Street Studio this past January.
The project afforded Debbie and I opportunities to complete vocals and guitar overdubs on one song and re-record guitar for another. The test pressings are in and Belligerent is printing posters and inserts while we get ready for the random-colored vinyl production run to begin!
Blues in E is a tribute to our old friend Steve Goodman who left this world too soon in 1994. Before he left us, I had the privilege of recording a short demo of Goodman’s original Jazz and Blues compositions. Transferred from original tape and mastered by Carl Saff, we have 4 tracks hilighting the poetry, song writing, and musicianship of our buddy, who had originally provided sax and trumpet overdubs on early Zonic Shockum compositions.
Steve was also my friend in art. My first real job after Art School was as assistant to Steven Allan Goodman in a local art gallery where he was the Master Framer. I learned the precious craft of fine art framing from Steve, who also conceptualized and championed the 3-D watercolor paintings of Philly street scenes I sold through the years during our friendship.
Blues in E is finished, mastered and at the cassette replication plant now. The 32nd anniversary of Goodman’s passing is April 25.
